The Marty Fan- Texas Style

The Marty Fan has gone several upgrades over the years.  We now use an aluminum frame which is made up of 8 sections that can be bolted together.  The 16 LED strip lights are housed in aluminum tracks and covered by an opaque plastic housing for protection.  A single 16 channel Alpha Pix controller runs the Marty Fan.  Two additional strip lights are used across the top arches with a separate LOR controller for each 16 ft. strip.  Back in the third year we used a 2″ PVC frame pictured below which we put C-5 LEDs on 16 channels, with two strings of white C-6 across the top.  The Diameter across the fan was 20 ft.  There were 8 strobes inset into the fan also.

This plywood has lasted two years without any problems.  It’s a piece of birch and attached with ties wraps.

This was half of the Marty Fan with the PVC build.  When I finished it was raining lightly and too dark for a good picture. Will update when sunshine prevails.  The fan is attached to a 2-3/8″ piece of steel pipe that is sunk 3 ft. into the ground into another piece of pipe set in concrete.  This enable the fan to stay upright and no additional supports, or guy wires are used.
